Does anyone have (or know someone who has) satellite internet? We're sick to death of our snail speed (and some days no speed) dial up. DSL isn't available where we live, so our only other option is satellite and we were wondering if it would be any better than the dial up. I've seen reviews ranging from excellent to worse than terrible. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My cousin in Indiana has Hughes Net, and he says he loves it. 100 X's better then his old dial up AOL, is what he keeps telling me.

I have Wild Blue sat. It's a lot better than dial up as long as there is not a storm cloud between your dish and the satellite.

Thanks Eric, Glenn for the input... I think we may give the satellite a try ...... we're already used to losing Dtv when we have a storm.... besides.... with all the rain we get here we shouldn't have any trouble at all.....

be careful... some of those sat connections use the dish for download and have a phoneline for upload.... which is fine if you never plan on uploading anything or trying to do any form of streaming from yourself... or do something like play a game online

Mine don't use a phone line. I had my land line turned off. Didn't need it any more! ;D

We're trying to get rid of our crappy land line (AT&T still has copper wires running out here...)

i SEEM to remember DirectTV being the ones doing that but then again this was back in 2000 and then in 2004 or so... its possible that things have changed... just make sure that the upload speed isnt something like 56k.... 256k up is usually good enough for most, i think ive got 768k upload with our charter 5mb download...
