i was asked about some places to get photography related items at the pool party this past saturday and i said i would post up some places so here it goes...
For the best prices i know of from a reputable dealer and even sometimes used parts www.bhphotovideo.com/ is a GREAT place to deal with, AWESOME customer service... they are based out of NYC and have a HUGE store there but their website is freaking awesome...
where I get most of my used stuff is Ebay. As long as you stay smart about it and do things like look up th serial numbers on the lenses you wont get screwed over. ive bought a Nikon 70-210 f/4-5.6 and a Nikon 28mm F2.8 lens off of there as well.. both were in excellent shape...
Even if you arent into the import stuff www.honda-tech.com has a HUGE photography following... a LOT of professional photographers post on there and a LOT of gear is sold there... i recently got a Tokin 12-24 f/4 lens on there with a Hoya filter and a circular polarizer for a pretty good deal... here is a direct link to the photography section since you cant get to it from any main page... www.honda-tech.com/zeroforum/83
now for product reviews and some feedback on lenses and camera bodies or even point and shoot cameras www.dpreview.com is where i always go to find details out about things...
if you want feedback from hardcore photographers then www.fredmiranda.com/ is an excellent place to go, they have a very well setup forum and offer all kinds of help, there is a much more limited review section for parts... but their forum is WORLDS of help with most photography related issues...
on Honda-Tech there are a few threads that i frequent... one of which is the Nikon only thread where Nikon users post up their work and comment and critique each others work... there is a Canon thread for thos who are using the EOS line as well as the upper level cameras...
My first suggestion for a lens that i think EVERYONE should have is a 50mm F/1.8... both Nikon and Canon make a version of it... the Nikon version runs 120-150 depending on where you buy it... the Canon Version goes for as little as 80 bucks at times...
last but not least should you ever be in a bind and need something locally, ive found that Wolf Camera on Haywood rd to be pretty much the only place to get good camera stuff and almost reasonable prices...
i am by FAR not a professional by any means but this is the crap ive learned in the past year and a half or so... just go out and take a bunch of bad pictures... its the only way you'll get better, its just like playing an instrument... you've gotta suck a LOT to get good lol...
heres some of my shots ive taken over the past 6 months with my Nikon D50
Nikon D50 with Tokina 12-24 F/4
Nikon D50 with Nikon 50mm f/1.8
Nikon D50 with Nikon 70-210 f/4-5.6
Same combo as above...
