I'm building the 347 and have run into a problem. When I turn the motor over by hand the rocker arm comes in contact with the rocker stud and kinda bends it over. I know thats not acceptable and I have a problem. Its touching at the slot in the bottom of the rocker and bottoms out. I/m running a flat tappet cam with a factory 74 302 block, trick flow heads and 1.6 comp cams magnum rockers. I had 7.700" push rods in it and the tip of the rocker looked centered on the valve. Since the I return the push rod length checker to my buddy and now I'm shooting blind. I borrowed a set of 7.550" and they touched. I cut and welded a approx 7.410" push rod and it looked good on the exhaust side but broke before I could check the intake side. Does anyone know the correct lenght push rod for a flat tappet- twisted wedge application?? I'm considering just buying a set of 7.350" and trying but I'm going broke buying push rods. Thanks in advance for any help...

just take a old stock push rod and cut it in half. Then put a rod down the center of it and add washers till you get the right length. Then just measure what you have and go from there

I cut one and threaded it but it broke when I put some pressure on it. Didn't think of the washer idea, might be my next one.

I put the play-doh on the pistons and turned the motor over with solid lifters and there were no marks on the play-doh and the motor turned over fine. I even turned the rockers down another .050 at the valve and it turned over fine.
