It depends on your budget. 331 or a 347 can put down some serious horsepower but there is no beating displacement. The bad side to the 351 is all the swap items you have to buy to fit the 351 into you stang.
Lower intake, motor mounts, oil pan, and headers just to name a few. These parts all cost a little more than a 302 based block so its just something to keep in mind.

i would say depending on your price range. not much of a buget. heads, cam, intake and shot of gas. or if you find a good deal on a charger. do that. or hell do all 3 h/c/i, stroker, and charger!

stroker....cost much about the same to re-build a 306......Check this guy out...he sells budget 347's.Short blocks for around $2300 ready to roll.......I have personally seen many of them (with the right setup) go 5's in the 1/8th www.bigdyno.com

If you are planning to make over 600hp, and can't afford a good block. Then, you need to consider a 351W. Most 351's will handle 700-900hp with the production blocks.

if that is the case go with a 351 dart block forged pistons at least h beam rod, forged crank some afr heads stud the hole block and spray as much as you want p.s. if your going to stroke the 351 then go with the 427 stroker and mid to low 5's here you come! p.s.s. comedic gaskets don't waste your money on the cheap ones! if you go cheap you will break!
