I planned on not having ac in my car, but recently changed my mind. I have gathered up everything I need but have one thing holding me back. I went to bolt one of the lines to the compressor and noticed this. Does anyone have an old compressor lying around you could sell me this piece off of? Thanks for any help.

Just to let you know, that is called the compressor manifold. I also noticed that it hasn't been converted to 134A. You should do this before the install. It is a lot easier to flush the system. That and R12 is going for around 65.00 for a 12oz can right now, if you can find it and have a license to buy it. Conversion is easy and now would be the best time to do it. Just my $.02

Just my $.02 I planned on changing it over. How do you go about flushing the system? I figured it was already flushed. The compressor hasn't been used in years, The lines were sitting in my dads shop for at least 5 years. Does the R12 sit in the compressor and dryer untill you flush it? Thanks for any help.

It's not the refrigerant that sits in the system, it's the oils and deposits. That is what the flush is for. Also inspect the hoses closely. If they have been sitting that long, look for cracking. Replace all the "O" rings. The flush cleans the system. There are flushes for that purpose. Remember, the refigerants will work together but, it's the oils that will not. You can get the retrofit kits from any auto parts store. They include the flush, refrigerant, fitting adapters and some ( O'Reilly Auto Parts ) sell one that has a CD that explains the whole process. Oh, and by the way, the R134A goes for about 6.99 a can, as opposed to 65.00 a can. Big difference in price. Did my 91 about 2 years ago. Still works fine.

If your system has been open for any amount of time, you'll need to replace the dryer. The desiccant will be useless after being open for that long.

I always plug my lines as I disconnect them to keep the moisture out, that is very important. I think I might have a spare plugged dryer and compressor lying around I will check. Let me know if you still need it.
