I have a standard 5.0/2.3 radiator in my notchback with the 347. I have run it down the road it like to hold the coolant temp gauge at the O in Normal in the dash, don't know an exact temp but its hot I know that, thermostat opens at the top of the M and it will fall down to the A then right back up to the O. Thermostat is a 195 so I'm guestimating that Top of the M is 195 so... The O is like 220-240??? I have NO fan on it at this time, but I'm thinking about getting a 14"-15" Advance auto fan and a 3 core radiator from my local rad shop. Do you think the 347 is overkill for a stock rad or do I just need a fan. BTW the car hasn't hit 50 yet, no tags of insurance so just driving in the nieghborhood.
So you don't have to go outside and look at the temp gauge it looks like this...
- 270 - -N -O -R -M -R -A -L - -130

I have a Mark VIII in my local boneyard but it is a HARD front-ender. Drivers wheel is in the console. Looking at a couple Taurus fans and a 3G alternator, tho. Might get a NEW rad to be extra careful.

Run the stock Rad, and put in a 180 Degree t-stat. X2, my friend runs the same set up with his 347. Only time it gets hot, is in dead stopped traffic.

Does the air deflector make that much difference. I know "If it didn't then they wouldn't put one on it" but MAN its ulgy. I got 3 taurus fans today, so the fan problem is fixed, as for the thermostat, for some reason I have had good luck out of 195's

180 therm stat and a 88-95 3.8 taurus fan. if you have the money alum radiator will help also. if not a 3row brass will get the job done with the taurus fan.

This is what I did so far. Got the Taurus fan installed, so I got air flow, wired it so the low spped is on when the key is on, had it to a temp probe but it didn't work. Drove it, better in traffic, 270 at cruise speed and drains the battery at idle. Went to the local U-Pull-It and got a ugly air deflector and a 3G alternator w/ harness. Now charging 13.5 at idle with fan on and cruise speed temp needle is covering the O in NORMAL. Going to swap for a 185 thermostat and see what that does me for. Also still need to wire the high speed fan but its not a HUGE priority if it cools good in traffic and cruise speed. GETTING CLOSER TO THE FOXBODY CRUISE EVERYDAY!!!

As for the 3 fans I got the 69 with cooling problems and a drag car on the way(kinda like a baby) and ones on the notch, but if you need one I'll look for you one at the U-Pull-It.

Well took the 195 thermostat out and put in the 180 and now it runs hotter than it did before. I'm just going to put the 195 back in it and drive on. It was running dead center with the 195 down the highway, hotter at slower cruise and a dead stop.
