No its opening and it cools off then it come back up. I need that restriction that the 195 half open gives me to hold the water in the rad longer, in effect cooling it more. Cruise speed with the 195 is dead center maybe 1 line above, I don't know the exact b/c/ Ford had a great idea not numbering the lines or even making it like a 20 degree difference between them but I'm guessing its like 195-210 which is fine by me.

Well, I went to the local bone yard today and found an 81 Fagmont... I mean fairmont that had a 3.3L in it and a brand new alum. 1 core radiator in it. Snatched it along with another taurus fan. I installed the rad and it idles on warm up at the same temp as my 4 banger. After driving it idles at 1/2 way. Dead on half way with the 180 thermo in it, highway cruising it either a tad above or below 1/2 way depends if you on or off the throttle. So I think its fixed. Also Nasty, if you need a taurus fan I got you a spare today. I got it for $25, if you still want/need it I'll bring it to MW.

Sounds like you found your problem, the radiator must have been clogged up. You still need to put a real gauge in, and not rely on the stock one.

Well I don't think the stock radiator is clogged, it cooled fine with the 195 thermostat, just when it went to more flow it couldn't dissipate the heat as well as aluminum can.
