The engine in my 93 has never been into..... bone stock except for bolt on or items removed..... how would Ford's E303 cam effect the performance ... better yet how bad would it hurt the gas mileage ? or would it help ?I'm not planning to do any alterations anytime soon just a question to ponder....

I personally think a cam is a waste of time and money if you don't change the heads and intake also.
And stay away from the Ford alphabet cams. There is way to many better cams on the market today.

cams are always a great topic of debate. a small cam will help, but the big hold back are the stock heads, and the stock intake. air flows comes as a package and a bottle neck anywhere hurts.
alphabet cams have their advantages, they are plentiful and cheap, because they use roller lifters used cams are a great bargain. an E cam is pretty much the staple of the fox body mustang. its mild, it can be used with 1.73 rockers, its got a nice idle, and its bigger then stock. it will work with the stock valve springs and pistons.
but the technology in these cams are almost as old as i am... scary thought i know.
if you can afford more then $125 for a used fms cam, look for a more modern grind from comp/lunati/ect. dont be shy to call their tech lines and talk to them. an ecam would be a great starting point, but you have to pull the intake and the valve covers off to do it. for that much work you cuold save up for a set of cheap heads (gt40's or some used aluminum units) and maybe an intake as well. or just rebuild a short block with these parts and swap motors in a weekend.
the most lift your looking at is around .514, im running a 5.14 lift Fcam with 1.6 roller rockers and its way to big for the heads, and the valve springs hate it... but it idles nice.
