Yeah, took my block to the machine shop on Thursday and they said it would be $450 to bore 8 holes, cam bearing and freeze plugs, etc... Last year same machine shop same block, same work, they said it would be $250. I said go ahead and do it anyways. Call them back today and guess what the block has numerous cracks from the main webs to the cam bearing locations and from there to the lifter valley. So now the question.. Do I buy another roller block(87+) or just a non-roller 69-72 block that I have laying and have to deal with my 2 piece rear main seal and flat tappet lifters or(really not going to happen...) buy a dart aluminum block and start from there...

That sucks! If I were you I would just find another stock block. You can always buy a new Boss 302 block. But they are around $1,700.00 though.

I just know the people I race with swear up and down that the 69-77ish block are a lot better than the 87-96 blocks. I have been saving a nice standard bore 69 Mexican built block what was in my 69 Mustang factory, might use it...

Naw... I got all the parts for the 347. I sent the mexican block to the machine shop and it had a blown a head gasket a long time ago and sat, rusted up the cylinder. They bored it .030 and it still wasn't clean so they had to sleeve it. Another $100 down the drain. More crying as I throw money to the machine shop JUST to get the block done.

Yeah, he is the only one around me that I use right now, he accommodates to me, during lunch, waits for me til 6:30 to get stuff, everybody else doesn't give a hoot. He is providing the parts too, cam bearing, freeze plugs and sleeve. I told him to forget about using torque plates if he was going to charge me more $$ so the bill should be cheaper, hea wanted $45 a side to use torque plate... That will cover the sleeve.
