I posted this on another board and didn't get much feed back.
I'm looking to get a 5.0.
I found a '90 LX hatchback Auto that I like that wouldn't be to much of a project, I had a '64 Austin Healey for 5 years and didn't do a weeks work on it. :crying:
My question is, a car with 170,000 miles is good for how many more ?
Seems to be a solid car, needs paint, no rust that I can see, maybe a front bumper cover ( it's dry and cracked in one spot, don't know if that can be repaired.
What problems do I look for ?

If the car has been maintained and you keep it maintained you could get another 100 thousand out of it.

I would check the dipstick and under the oil filler cap for any signs of sludge/crud on it. Look at the bolts that hold the fender on to see if they have been wrenched. If it's an AOD car I would check the trans dipstick for trans fluid color and burnt smell to the trans. Also if it's AOD check to make sure the trans kickdown cable has a grommet in it to hold the cable to the bracket under the throttle chamber. I thought for sure my trans was toast after I bought my GT but the grommet was missing, once I put one in she shifted smooth and was a totally different car.
